In May, our small tree had been home on our porch for a month or two. One of our mothers was very sick, and the fig's progress became a fond topic during hospital visits.
By August the tree cast a distinctive silhouette. At night, owing to streetlights, the silhouette was cast on our neighbor's house.
August 2009: a fig on the verge of ripening.

Thanks for all the fig feedback-- I love hearing about the interesting plants people are growing in our own yards! My Mom's trying to start some cuttings from her plants, so if you're interested, maybe I'll send one your way in the springtime via Mel and Drake.
